Deutsche Bank Wealth Management Lounge at Frieze London features John Akomfrah

27 September 2017

John Akomfrah has been selected as the feature artist for this year's Deutsche Bank Wealth Management Lounge during Frieze Week (5 – 8 October 2017).

Coinciding with the launch of his new commission Purple at the Barbican Centre, opening on 6 October 2017 and continuing until 7 January 2018, Akomfrah will premiere a number of new photographic triptychs at the Frieze London lounge.

Titled Preliminal Rites, the figurative works use the language, ideas, icons and conventions of the historical triptych to visualise modern themes around diversity, tolerance and the coming of the new. The pieces were inspired by two of the most famous triptychs in the history of Western painting: The Portinari Altarpiece (or Triptych) (1475) by the Flemish painter Hugo van der Goes and the Adoration of the Magi (1510) by Hieronymous Bosch.
