John Akomfrah in 'The Workshop Years: Black British Film and Video after 1981' at the Hammer Museum

7 January 2017

John Akomfrah's films are included in The Workshop Years: Black British Film and Video after 1981, at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. The exhibition examines independent black British filmmaking in the aftermath of South London’s Brixton Rising in 1981, and its ongoing investigation of Britain's culture, history, activism, and race relations.

Handsworth Songs (1986), Seven Songs for Malcolm X (1993), and The Last Angel of History (1995) will be screened 17–15 January as part of the Black Audio Film Collective.
